When to see

Pintail are a winter visitor to the Bay. They start to arrive in September and will remain until March-April before departing for their breeding areas. Twenty years ago there were very few Pintail seen on the Bay but in recent years their numbers have risen quite dramatically. In the most recent winter there were frequent sightings of around 400.

Where to see

Pintail tend to move across the Bay as the tide ebbs and flows. At low water the best place to see them is on the Culbin shore opposite Findhorn village, although a pair of binoculars will help. As the tide floods the Bay they will swim back with the water onto the southern end of the bay.

Return to bird life.
